Top 5 electric two-wheelers with longest battery range in India

Published On 01 May 2021 11:52 AM
Until the Indian charging infrastructure is developed enough, you can choose an EV from one of these options which can go on for over-100kilometers before asking for a recharge.

When it comes to buying an electric two-wheeler, one of the most crucial factors is the riding range. Owing to the lack of charging infrastructure, Indian customers hold themselves back from purchasing an EV. And that’s justifiable as the thought of getting stranded miles away from home with a drained battery, with no charging point at disposal, sounds daunting.

Fortunately, there are a few electric two-wheelers in India that address this issue to a certain extent by offering an impressive riding range. Well, until the Indian charging infrastructure is developed enough, you can choose an EV from one of these options which can go on for over-100kilometers before asking for a recharge. However, it’s worth noting that unlike mainstream ICE-powered bike makers, most of these brands have their dealership reach only in select cities in India.

5. Benling Aura: 120km

Benling is a fairly new brand that started its India operations in 2019 with four electric two-wheelers. While three of these are low-speed offerings, the Aura is the only high-speed model that is also claimed to have an impressive riding range of 120km in Eco mode. With a 2.5kW BLDC motor, it touches a top speed of 60kmph. Benling has priced the Aura at Rs 93,200 in India.

4. Okinawa i-Praise: 139km

Unlike Benling, Okinawa has been present in the market for a long time and has a strong dealership network across the country. Amongst the five scooters it sells, the i-Praise has the longest battery range of about 139km. This is achieved through a 3.3kWh lithium-ion battery that powers the 1kW BLDC motor capable of producing 2.5kW of peak power. The i-Praise is priced on the premium side at Rs 1.09 lakh.

3. Hero Electric Nyx HX: 165km

Hero Electric had launched the Nyx HX in India in October last year. It is more of a utilitarian e-scooter with a no non-sense boxy design. It gets a large footboard and a flat pillion seat that can be folded up to mount luggage. Most importantly, it rides for up to 165km before its 51.2V/30Ah dual batteries run out of charge. But this long range comes at the cost of top speed that is limited to 42kmph. The Nyx HX sets you back by Rs 64,640.

2. Odysse Hawk Plus: 170km

Odysse is another new entrant in the Indian EV market with its dealerships setup only in a few cities. While its portfolio only has four products, one of these, the Hawk Plus, offers a staggering range of 170km. The charging time is also pretty fast at four hours and it can be juiced up by plugging into any three-pin socket. The top speed delivered by its 1.8kW motor is around 45km while it is also equipped with modern features like Bluetooth connectivity and mobile charging point.

1. Revolt RV 300: 180km

Topping the list is an electric motorcycle – the Revolt RV 300. It is the scaled-down version of the more powerful RV400. With a 2.7kWh lithium-ion battery, the RV300 delivers the longest range of around 180km, if ridden in Eco mode. Another interesting aspect about it is the styling that looks like a conventional, ICE-powered motorcycle. Revolt retails the RV 300 at Rs 1,10,963 and with a unique monthly subscription plan.
